CvSU GWA Grade Computation & Latin Honors Guidelines

Understand the official Cavite State University grading system, GWA calculation, Dean's List targets, and Latin Honors requirements.

Overview

For CvSU Laya and students across all CvSU campuses (Indang, Imus, Bacoor, Cavite City, etc.), keeping track of your General Weighted Average (GWA) is crucial for scholarships, Dean's List placement, and graduation honors. CvSU follows a specific decimal grading system from 1.00 to 5.00. This guide walks you through the computation steps, grading scale definitions, and honors criteria.

The Official CvSU Grading Scale

Understanding what each decimal grade represents is key to monitoring your academic standing:

  • 1.00 (Excellent): 95 - 100% equivalent.
  • 1.25 (Very Good): 91 - 94% equivalent.
  • 1.50 (Good): 87 - 90% equivalent.
  • 1.75 (Very Satisfactory): 83 - 86% equivalent.
  • 2.00 (Satisfactory): 79 - 82% equivalent.
  • 2.25 (Fairly Satisfactory): 75 - 78% equivalent.
  • 2.50 (Fair): 71 - 74% equivalent.
  • 2.75 (Passed): 67 - 70% equivalent.
  • 3.00 (Passed): 60 - 66% equivalent (Minimum passing mark).
  • 4.00 (Conditional): Indicates a failing mark that can be cleared with a removal exam to yield a 3.00.
  • 5.00 (Failed): Dropped/Failed grade, below 60%.
  • INC: Incomplete requirements.

How to Compute Your CvSU GWA

The GWA is calculated using the weighted average method. Follow these steps:

  1. Multiply the final grade in each subject by the number of units for that subject. This gives your **grade points** for each course.
  2. Add all the grade points together.
  3. Add the total number of units completed during the semester.
  4. Divide the sum of grade points by the total number of units.
