Understanding the DepEd K-12 Grading System
The Department of Education in the Philippines utilizes a standardized weighted grading system under DepEd Order No. 8, s. 2015. Under this policy, students are evaluated on three major parts: Written Work, Performance Tasks, and a Quarterly Assessment.
Component Descriptions
Written Work: Evaluates subject knowledge through quizzes, unit tests, and essays.
Performance Tasks: Evaluates practical application through science labs, presentations, portfolios, or work immersion outputs.
Quarterly Assessment: A comprehensive exam conducted at the end of every quarter.
The Non-Linear Transmutation Step
DepEd does not print raw averages directly on reports. Instead, raw averages are converted using an official **Transmutation Table**. Under this table, the minimum passing percentage score of **60%** is transmuted to a report card grade of **75**. Scores below 60% are transmuted to grades ranging from 60 to 74, while a perfect raw score of 100% transmutes to 100.
