How is Philippine GWA Converted to US GPA?
When applying to US universities or requesting credentials evaluations from agencies like World Education Services (WES) or ECE, your Philippine college grades are converted to a standard US 4.0 scale.
Since the primary Philippine grading system uses an inverted scale (where 1.00 is Excellent/Highest, and 3.00 is Passing), a mathematical lookup is used to align grades. DLSU and a few other schools use a direct 4.0 scale, making the conversion much more direct.
Steps to Manually Convert Your GWA:
- Step 1: List all your college courses, along with their unit weights (usually 3.0 units per course) and your final numerical grades.
- Step 2: Map each of your grades to the US GPA equivalent (e.g. an Excellent mark of 1.25 in UP corresponds to a 4.00 US GPA).
- Step 3: Multiply each equivalent US GPA by the credits of that course to get the grade points.
- Step 4: Sum the total grade points and divide by the total credits to compute your cumulative US GPA.
