HAU uses a numeric grading system to evaluate student performance. Grades range from 1.0 to 5.0, each corresponding to a percentage range and a descriptive equivalent. This system provides a clear measure of academic achievement in each course.

Special Grades at HAU:
- P: Passed
- W: Withdrawal

HAU Academic Honors and Recognition
Holy Angel University recognizes academic excellence through various honors and lists, each with specific requirements for GWA/GPA and character.
Latin Honors Requirements
Graduates achieving exceptional academic records may receive Latin honors. These distinctions carry stringent criteria:

In addition to GWA, all Latin honor candidates must:
- Have taken all academic units prescribed for graduation at HAU.
- Carry the prescribed number of units per semester.
- For Summa Cum Laude, no grade lower than 2.0 in any academic subject, including those taken at other institutions.
Important: General Requirements for Honors
- Character: Candidates must not have been found guilty of a major offense by the Board of Discipline throughout their stay in the University.
- Residence: Students must complete their courses within the curriculum's required number of years. Extensions are possible on a case-by-case basis, but not beyond one year.
Dean's List and President's List
Academic excellence receives semestral recognition through an honor roll and Certificates of Academic Excellence:
- President's List: A semestral weighted grade point average of 1.0 - 1.25.
- Dean's List: A semestral weighted grade point average of 1.26 - 1.75.
To qualify for either list, all academic units registered in the preceding semester count towards the computation. The minimum grade in all subjects (excluding P.E. and NSTP) is 2.0, and the semestral weighted average must not fall below 1.75. Students must also carry the number of units prescribed by their curriculum.
Holy Angel University Registrar Rules and Academic Policies
HAU's Registrar's Office enforces several strict rules to maintain academic standards and administrative order. Students should understand these policies to remain in good standing.
Underloading Policies
Unit load requirements vary, particularly for scholarship grantees.
Scholarship Unit Loads:
- Academic scholars must carry a full load of at least 21 units or more as prescribed by the curriculum.
- Non-academic scholars (Student Assistant, Talent, and Sports) must carry a minimum load of 18 units.
Academic Probation Deloading: Students under academic probation, especially in the School of Education, may be deloaded by six units in the subsequent semester if they incur a minimum of three grades of 3.0 or a combination of 3.0, 5.0, 6.0, 8.0, and 9.0 in a semester. This deloading continues if they incur grades of 3.0.
Failing Grades and Academic Probation
HAU clearly defines failing grades and sets consequences for students who receive them.
Official failing grades include 5.0, 6.0 (FA for failure due to absences), and 8.0 (UW for unofficial withdrawal).
- Students who fail one or two courses in a semester receive an academic warning.
- A freshman who fails 30% of the total academic units enrolled in the current school year enters academic probation the following year.
- Academic probation begins in the second year and involves an individual program of study (IPOS).
Specific programs have distinct retake policies:
- B.S. Computer Science students can retake a major subject twice.
- B.S. Information Technology and B.S. Entertainment and Multimedia Computing students can retake a subject thrice.
- Failing beyond these limits may require a student to shift programs.
- A student with a failing mark in the School of Education can retake the course only once; otherwise, they receive advice to shift programs.
Consequences of Multiple Failures:
- Incurring 18 units of failures (5.0, 6.0, 8.0, 9.0) within three to four semesters can lead to advice to shift to another program.
- Unofficial withdrawal (UW) and failure due to absences (FA) in all courses within a semester disqualifies a student for readmission the following semester.
Dropping Courses
Students may drop courses following specific university procedures.
- Forms for dropping courses are available through the Registrar's Office.
- There are designated periods for dropping. For instance, "Drop a Course (Exception)" forms apply to dropping courses in the Short Term and after the last day to add in Fall and Spring terms.
- Students should drop courses using the online registration system (HIS) when it is open. Use the Drop form when online registration is closed.
School of Education Dropping Limit: A student in the School of Education can drop all courses only twice. After this limit, they receive advice to shift to another program.
Incomplete Requirements (INC)
The grade "INC" signifies that a student has not completed all requirements for a course.
Understanding INC Grades: The presence of the "INC" grade implies a formal process for completion. Students with an "INC" should contact their professor and the Registrar's Office to understand the specific deadlines and steps required to fulfill the missing requirements and convert the grade.
