UPCAT Examination Architecture & Statutory Structure
The University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) is the standardized entrance examination administered by the UP Office of Admissions (OAdms) to evaluate applicants for all undergraduate programs across the UP System constituent universities.

| Science | 60 Items | 50 Minutes | General Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science. |
| Mathematics | 60 Items | 75 Minutes | Algebra, Plane & Solid Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Probability. |

Mathematical Analysis: Right-Minus-Quarter Penalty Strategy
The UPCAT employs the statutory penalty formula to discourage random guessing:
When solving multiple-choice problems under this system, evaluate your statistical expected value:
- 4 Options Remaining (Blind Guess): Expected Value = $(0.25 \times 1.0) + (0.75 \times -0.25) = 0.25 - 0.1875 = +0.0625\text{ points}$ (Neutral/Near zero).
- 3 Options Remaining (1 Choice Eliminated): Expected Value = $(\frac{1}{3} \times 1.0) + (\frac{2}{3} \times -0.25) = 0.333 - 0.167 = +0.166\text{ points}$.
- 2 Options Remaining (2 Choices Eliminated): Expected Value = $(0.50 \times 1.0) + (0.50 \times -0.25) = 0.50 - 0.125 = +0.375\text{ points}$.
Strategic Takeaway: If you can eliminate at least one incorrect option with certainty, you should always submit an educated guess. Only omit questions where all four choices remain completely unfamiliar.
UPG Computation & Campus Cutoff Guide
Your University Predicted Grade (UPG) represents your overall ranking metric across the UP System:
Campus admission cutoffs fluctuate based on applicant pool performance and quota availability:
- UP Diliman: Cutoff approx. 2.100 – 2.250 (Highest quota competition; specialized programs like BS Molecular Biology and BS Computer Science demand top percentiles).
- UP Manila: Cutoff approx. 2.200 – 2.350 (White Colleges: Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Physical Therapy).
- UP Los Baños (UPLB): Cutoff approx. 2.300 – 2.450 (Agriculture, Forestry, Engineering, Veterinary Medicine).
- UP Visayas / UP Baguio / UP Mindanao / UP Cebu: Cutoff approx. 2.400 – 2.700.
UPCAT 2027 Post-Examination Status & Reconsideration Roadmap
The University of the Philippines administered the UPCAT 2027 on August 1–2, 2026 to approximately 153,000 senior high school examinees across 113 testing centers nationwide. The massive testing turnout highlights strong demand for admission into UP undergraduate degree programs.
Official examination results will be released through the UP Application portal in early 2027. Following the release of results, the UP Office of Admissions will open the Online Portal for Inquiries and Reconsideration (OASIS/DiWA) for non-qualifiers seeking campus recon based on their composite UPG score.
